Welcome to HOUR FOUR! I am so thrilled to be hosting a mini challenge this readathon. My first readathon was in October of last year and I am so glad that I decided to participate. This community of readers welcomed me with open arms and I am only sorry I didn’t find it sooner. Celebrating books and reading is a wonderful thing and I love to be able to spread the excitement.
This is intended to be an Instagram challenge but if you don’t have an Instagram account and would like to participate you can do so via Twitter. I will be checking the hashtag on both Twitter & Insta.
The challenge:
Sharing our love of books with the next generation is fun. During the readathon you might find yourself in the company of future readers. Perhaps you’re pregnant and in the habit of reading to your bump, or maybe you have a new baby, toddler, sibling, niece, nephew etc. Maybe you don’t have any kids around you today but you are enjoying some children’s classics. Take a picture of your toddler’s readathon stack, or of your baby looking through a book. Kids and books, let your creativity lead you. Use props, recreate a book cover… Whatever you do make sure to use the hashtag #readathonkids π
The prizes:
- A copy of a Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle (must be resident of the US since I’ll be shipping you the book)
- A $10 giftcard to Book Depository (open to international participants!)
I will be choosing two winners during hour 8 of the challenge which means you have 4 hours to participate. If you are a winner and under the age of 18 please get your parent/guardian’s permission before sharing your mailing address. Safety is important! If you have any questions leave them in the comments or contact me at the following:

I can’t wait to see your pics!
ETA I have decided to extend the challenge until the end of the readathon so keep those pics coming! I am loving looking through the hashtag π -Abby

Here’s a minichallenge for the new generation of readers π #deweysreadathon
Thanks for having a kids challenge!! I am reading with my kiddos today and trying to get them into it! Hopefully when they get to be teenagers we can all do this together – see I am already hoping they love books!!
Haha yes! I have a three year old and I can’t wait for him to be able to read on his own and discuss books together!
Um, to get my nephew to sit still long enough for that (he’s about 8 months), is not going to happen, haha!
Awww, I remember when my son was that age. I was probably reading to myself back then haha.
Well, who knows, maybe I’ll be reading to him someday, I remember my parents doing that with me and I loved it! : D
I had fun with this one. Since I don’t have any real kids I took a pic of my furry baby reading a book about dog training π https://instagram.com/the_corseted_librarian/
I love it! Furry babies are the best β€
My daughter loves books so it is kind of easy to get her reading. As soon as she woke up she was asking for a book. Love it!
Wonderful!
Mine is on instagram @bmreviewsohmy and will also be on my blog later.
I posted a picture of my Granddaughter reading! https://instagram.com/kimreneegatz/
She is adorable thank you for participating π
That was fun π I don’t have kids but I did show off my favorite book from childhood Miss Piggy’s Guide to Life–I bought myself a copy for my 40th birthday π π
I saw it and I love it! Haha Miss Piggy is such a fave π
Couldn’t resist – shared some Jane Austen baby primers π thanks for hosting.

Your little one is cute. I miss the baby dimples in the hands and how they move the pages. I just posted for this challenge.
Wonderful! Thanks for participating I will be looking through Twitter and Instagram soon!
I love this challenge! My almost 5-year-old Atticus is most excited about readathon, but upset I won’t let him drink my coffee. LOL. I am hiding out at the library for the morning and the kids are at a birthday party with my husband. Tonight? popcorn and extra reading time with mom. We also watch an episode of reading rainbow before bed each night (streaming on netflix and amazon prime). https://instagram.com/p/88eIr4quSS/?taken-by=nerdybookgirl
What an awesome bedtime routine! I am only a little jealous that you’re at the library haha. Thank you for participating π

This is actually one readathon when I’m specifically trying NOT to readathon with my kids (I’m also pregnant). Normally they’re all over with the books. LOL! But I did manage to snap this pic of my “baby.” https://twitter.com/TriniCapini/status/655440417375125504 Thanks for the fun challenge! There will be more readathoning with kids at my house tonight during bedtime. π
Haha I hear that! My husband works on Saturdays so I’ve so far always had my son with me the whole day. Thank you for sharing your pic. She’s adorable! π
We have been reading to my son (Who is now 2 years old) Since he was born. And he absolutely loves to read. I have several pictures on my instagram of him reading, but here are two from today. One of him reading and one of the books we bought.
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing
I’m so glad you extended this challenge. My six year old was super-excited to participate with me today.
